Yes, When I joined the Naval Reserve in 1937, it was still a requirement
for Radioman First Class to be proficient in both codes, International
Morse and American Morse and I studied the latter with great diligence.
But the requirement was dropped before I went up for first class and I
never had to be tested. To this day I can send text in American Morse
but doubt I can copy faster than four or five LPM.
