[Qcwa] Joining QCWA

QCWA members,

I have only been licensed since 1955 and did not jump to join the QCWA in
1980 because I wanted some member of QCWA to tell me something about why I
should be a member. If it were only to recognize that I had completed 25
years as a ham - then I could have a certificate made to hang on the wall
that would do that. If it was to join a ham club that would have a lot of
friendly people in it like the club full of "Elmers" that my first town radio
club had when I joined it in 1953 - then it would be fun. - Most of them are
now SK.

Likewise, if the QCWA was made up of a bunch of individuals who were like the
few hams who had no time for everyone who was licensed after WW II ("CQ CQ
- No Kids. No Lids and No Space Cadets de W2OY" ... now sk) - then why
bother. That would be like going out and trying to catch a case of Herpes...
 Who needs it?

Now I am trying to get a chapter of QCWA started in my town and the hams who
are eligable all ask me, "Why should I join QCWA?" If I answer as Norm
did, there will not be a local chapter...

It is not wise to answer like a "wise guy" if you want the QCWA to continue.
The few who were licensed before the "Big One" would make a very small club..
and most can't get to a meeting. Any organization that does not get new
members will die out. That is a question of when not if. When QCWA first
started all its members were real old-timers because radio was still fairly
new. The SK page is always long. Lets help QCWA maintain its numbers or
grow. Answer their question. Why they should join QCWA.
