Interesting question Norm.
By the way - the Collins 618T Transceivers, which were built in Toronto,
and used by almost all Commercial Airlines, are excellent HF SSB
Transceivers - with about 400 Watt transmitters. The only problem with
them is that you need 48 Volt power supplies to run them.
