A reasonable, thoughtful, and sensible idea, Larry. Thank you for bringing
it up. Actually, I thought that was the general purpose of the QCWA
reflector all along, but as you mentioned, it appears that defensiveness and
emotional outbursts too often result. Maybe the "think tank" idea will be
considered by those officers currently being "elected".

Serving on the QCWA Board requires a lot of personal and financial
sacrifice. How about a "virtual" or an "electronic" advisory board, to act
as a "sounding board" for the official/elected group? It is possible to
have a "reflector" with only invited membership. This would let those who
cannot attend board meetings in person, still be involved in the
association. It is a great place for input from past board members.

I am a moderator of an electronic think tank for another group which has
54,000 members worldwide. The think tank, which is comprised of a limited
number of very experienced members, acts as an idea producer for that
organization's board of directors and its official planning committee. It
has been most useful. It has permitted the involvement of a lot of
experienced folks, and has not had any of the emotional challenges which
seem to affect this reflector.

I might add that the other organization is considering an "electronic or
virtual" chapter to serve the needs of those who simply cannot get to a
chapter meeting. Of course "regular" chapter members can also participate.

The "web world" is opening up so many exciting communications channels,
which can be terrific support for amateur radio communications, right?

Another thought: Perhaps the QCWA president could post a weekly newsletter
on this reflector; many other organizations are doing such.

Larry (W0AIB)
