        Dear Raymond, W5VPU:

I am amazed that for someone eligible for QCWA membership, you
seem to have no knowledge of the members of the QCWA Board of Directors,
of which John Johnson, W3BE, is a member. Since John was the former
Chief of the Amateur and Citizens Division of the FCC for a decade or so,
I just supposed that a majority of Amateurs would know him in that venue
if in no other. I came across his bio on page 14 of the Spring 2002 QCWA
Journal. Did you read that page by any chance, Raymond? If not, how
about pages 10 through 13, where John's Quarterly column of Q & A
related to FCC Rules and Regs is a regular feature of the Journal?
I have it on good authority that the Board of Directors felt that
support of the proposed new 60 meter band would be something most QCWA
members would support, that it was discussed via e-mail exchanges,
that a motion was made regarding a statement of support ( for which some
Directors proposed amendments), which was passed with overwhelming
support. Then John was asked to draft the QCWA Board's position to the
FCC-- as a former FCC staff person, who better to know how to do so? --
and that position was once again offered to the Board to modify or
change. All done decently and in order, Raymond, with the thought that
you and most others would really want to have a new 60-meter band enough
that support for it from as many individuals and groups as possible would
be a good thing, and that they should say so directly to the FCC.
In 2003 there will be another opportunity for you, Raymond, to
become a part of the "elite" who "run things" in the QCWA -- and whom you
scourage so readily -- when another group of folks will be invited to run
for election to the QCWA Board of Directors. John Huntoon (do you have
any idea as to who he is?) is Chair of the Nominating Committee, and
will surely welcome your petition for the position.
                        -- 73, Alan, KJ9N -- God Bless America, God
Bless our Democracy, God bless the QCWA, and God Bless you, too!
