This is a tikler to generate conersation!

Does anyone in this illustrious group know how that
type of amplifier got its name "push-pull"?

Or for that matter  a PUSH-PULL Xtal oscillator?

Is it pushing or pulling and if its doing both is it doing it
simultaneously?
