 Wayne, KU4V, and I were ham radio friends for many years. I just learned of
his passing and was shocked and saddened to hear this terrible news.

Wayne spent many weeks over the years with me and other team members
relaxing and competing at VP5M. Wayne’s SSB skills were incredible but
often underrated. His quiet and accurate style led us to several world wins
in our class. Wayne was also the ultimate “team player” in our efforts,
quietly also working behind the scenes to set up software and equipment to
facilitate and improve our scores. He usually brought his K3 and laptop all
ready to go at one of the operating positions.

More than that, Wayne was a great friend and a joy to be with traveling and
in free time during the entire week’s expedition. For anything that needed
doing, he was the first to volunteer. His morning omelettes made with care
for the group were legendary.

He and I drove to Dayton together two separate times for the annual
“Hamvention” and he was great company in the car, notwithstanding on one
drive home he shared the Covid bug he picked up there!

When we sold the Turks and Caicos property last year Wayne was a part of
CQWW SSB 2025, our “farewell tour” contest. We were together again for
Field Day as NR4O just at the end of June. Wayne, you will always be
missed. Listen out for us!
