Subject: [PVRC] 5M Contest Double 5M Points! Need the Posse on this one!
To: PVRC Group <pvrc at mailman.qth.net>

The *California QSO Party* is new to our list of 5M Contests! THIS WEEKEND!
Saturday October 4 - 5, Phone & CW
Double 5M Points for this inaugural event!
*Just your log entry of 10 or more QSOs in this contest earn you & PVRC
10,000 bonus points (per unique callsign) from the contest sponsor!
This is a huge advantage for the PVRC Posse if we show up in-force! 100
unique PVRC callsign log submissions would be 1 million club competition
contest points *before* adding your QSO points multiplied by multipliers!

Cal QSOp Begins: 1600 UTC = *2pm EDT Saturday* - 04 October 2025 Ends:
2200 UTC - = *6pm EDT Sunday* 05 October 2025
250 mile circle applies for clubs, only contacts with California
stations count for QSO credit.
Exceptions to Club Circle:
    A) club member who resides outside of the club's region but who travels
to a station within the region, or operates in a California County
Expedition, may contribute points to the club's total.
    B) Mobile operations which travel outside of the club's region can
contribute points to the club's total. *This applies for mobile stations*
inside and *outside California*. *PVRC mobile operators may be very
important to a PVRC win due to bonus points, see below*!

The California QSO Party Club Competition is divided into five
categories and the out-of-California club winning each category receives an
award.
Yosemite Class Award (>30 logs) winner in 2024 was Minnesota Wireless Assn
with 1,873,524 55 points and 55 logs (that's a lot!), of which 650,000
points were bonus points.
So it is very important to get bonus points, see details below and read
their rules https://www.cqp.org/Rules.html.

MODES: CW, Phone
BANDS: 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters (see suggested/restricted
frequencies below)

Exchange:

Stations outside of California * send QSO number and 2-letter State*
QSO number = contact serial number starting with 1 for the first contact,
progressing to 2 for the next contact, and so on.
*For how to log a county-line QSO in N1MM+, N3FJP, and Writelog see
https://www.cqp.org/files/cqp_how_to_log_a_county_line_qso.pdf

QSO POints:

Each complete non-duplicate Phone contact is worth 2 points.
Each complete non-duplicate *CW contact is worth 3 points*. Although
there is no credit for duplicate contacts, there's no penalty either, so
please do not remove them from your log as they help with log checking.
Stations may be worked once on CW *and* once on Phone on each of the 6
bands (maximum of 12 QSOs with any one station).

MULTIPLIERS:
Non-California Stations:
Count all 58 California Counties for a maximum of 58
<https://www.cqp.org/cqp_multipliers.html> multipliers.

Frequencies:
CW: 40 kHz up from the bottom band edge on 10m-80m; 160m at 1815 kHz
SSB: 1845 kHz, 3750-3820 kHz (avoiding 3790-3800 kHz DX window), 7230 kHz,
14250 kHz, 21300 kHz, 28450 kHz.

Rallies:
1900z: Try 10m at 28040 and 28450 kHz
0300z and 0600z: Try 80CW at 3540 kHz and 75PH at 3750-3820 kHz (avoiding
3790-3800 kHz DX window)
0500z: Try 160CW at 1815 kHz
0530z: Try 160PH at 1845 kHz

*BONUS POINTS: *

   - 10,000 points for every log submitted with a *unique callsign*.So
a *Highly
Motivated Operator (HMO)* would get the bonus for his log submitted with
his callsign for his effort at his home station and the mult-op station he
participated in would get a separate bonus for its log, assuming the HMO's
callsign was NOT used by the multi-op!

   - 50,000 points for at least one *non-California Mobile*. *This could be
important to PVRC!* The intent of this bonus is to inspire the mobile
stations active in other QSO Parties to use CQP as a test run, which in
turn could provide more QSOs from an uncommon state/province. Hypothetical
example: Minnesota Wireless Association member K0JP goes mobile to North
Dakota for CQP as a test run in preparation for his mobile effort in the
North Dakota QSO Party. K0JP activates rare North Dakota in CQP while
Minnesota Wireless Association benefits by collecting more points than may
have been possible from K0JP's home station. *Who can be the mobile
   station for PVRC??*

   - 50,000 points for at least one YL S/O log submitted. *Kay N3KN??
   Others?*
   - 50,000 points for at least one Youth S/O log submitted.
   - 50,000 points for at least one New Contester S/O log submitted.

Note: Minimum 10 claimed QSOs for all club bonuses above. Checklogs are
ineligible.
Possible per the Rules but not likely for PVRC:

   - 50,000 points for every California County Expedition. Can be any CA
County. Maximum of 50,000 bonus points per county.

Stations are allowed to claim as many special award categories as apply
to their log. For stations Out-of-California, the Categories possible seem
to be the four SOAPBOX lines shown below.
**To get bonus points credit *YOU MUST* indicate if any of these award
categories applied to you by using a text editor
to *insert any of these lines in your Cabrillo log file header*:

SOAPBOX: MOBILE
SOAPBOX: YL
SOAPBOX: YOUTH
SOAPBOX: NEW CONTESTER

For "YL" category, only YLs entering in the Single-Operator or
Single-Operator-Assisted classes are eligible for the YL Operator award;*
those working as part of Multi-Operator teams are not eligible.*

For the "YOUTH" category, see full Rules https://www.cqp.org/Rules.html,
but know that
*those working as part of Multi-Operator teams are not eligible. *
or the "NEW CONTESTER" category, see full Rules. This may not be easy to
qualify for.
See CQP Rules <https://cqp.org/Rules.html> for definitions.

Go PVRC & The Posse!
