It IS nearly November. And as we all know, the ARRL CW Sweepstakes (SS)
are the first weekend in November. This year Old Mr. Calendar did us a
dirty deed and plut the SS prior to our November chapter meeting.
So, this email counts as our 2025 annual SS cheerleading. If you're a CW
contester, this messages is for you. If you're not a CW guy, it still is
for you. Perhaps you'll go get a CW reader and give it a shot.
Back in the day, and after a few years of playing in contests, the 1962
November CW SS was my first formal contest entry. Another guy and I did a
multi-op and won the San Francisco section. I've been hooked on the SS
ever since.
It's time to prepare. Check out your stations, review your N1MM setup,
check your marcos. Make sure to update your section list, cross your
fingers, and get ready to go!
Check out our website - there's a number of really good SS presentations
there. Nothing new, but way too much for many of us to remember, but all
good hints and kinks. Read the rules again. Twice. Polish the contacts on
your paddles.
Eat well, sleep well the week before and get healthy for the SS. Psych
yourself up, and be mentally prepared for the sweeps. Superglue your butt
(well your trousers anyhow) to your operating chair to increase your BIC
(butt in chair) time. And check out the fall time change so it doesn't
fool you.
If you operate as part of a multi op - outstanding. Then find some time to
use your own station to join the Highly Motivated Operator (HMO) club for
an additional score for PVRC.
Please remember that the SS is one of PVRC's bedrock contests. Then get
out there and have fun.
