2025 CQP Notes
In the beginning there was this 18-year old #98 K3+(lots of updates) that
had traveled thousands of miles (round trips to beach) that suddenly
developed a life-threatening sickness…no power out. To the rescue came the
stunt rig (#5573), which had a few quirks to work out before entering the
scene.
Things started off slow with only a few CA stations being heard on 10 and
15, and nothing on 20. I kept bouncing back and forth between 10 & 15 for
the hours, with an occasional check of 20. 15 was the money band for me,
with a few second-band contacts on 10. 20 never seemed to open to CA until
just before I stopped for the evening. And then there were only a few weak
CA stations that just could not hear my 100w signal forced into a 10 Meter
antenna. Stopped Sat night at 2345Z with 78 contacts in 44 counties. It was
fun to get those multiple county contacts (two triple and two double county
Qs).
Back at the rig around 1130Z Sunday morning and no CA stations being heard
on 10 – 20. After morning church services and lunch with XYL, made it back
to rig at 1715Z and kept sweeping 10 and 15 looking for new contacts. Most
everyone heard were Dupes with the exception of 13 new CA stations and 3
new counties. 10 – 20 bands were, at best, the same as Saturday. Stopped at
2000Z for a family gathering.
Last year’s score was a little better with 112 Qs and 45 Counties. The two
triple-county contacts helped the mult count this year.
Rig; Elecraft K3+ with Heil HC4 mic element
Antennas: 3 MFJ-1890 10M Moxons in 2nd floor home attic at 26 ft
