[PVRCNC] Fwd: Call for Forum Presentations

Gents:
I think a presentation would be a fine idea. But, I also agree with Nate.
It ought to be couched in terms that makes the concept attractive to a wide
audience.

To wit, here are my suggestions:
*PART A:*
1. Don't couch it in terms of contesting, nor PVRC.
2. I would sell the idea that John Q. Ham can now --easily and reliably--
set up remote control of their own home station.
3. Show that there are several platforms, that allow many of the
most-popular transceivers. It's NOT a concept that requires someone to buy
a few thousand bucks' worth of new gear, nor upgrade with a new PC.
4. They have only two starting needs: (a) Reliable, high-speed connection
of their transceiver to a PC, and (b) reliable, high-speed connection of
their PC to the Internet.
5. Then, I'd take a segue into this question: "What can I do with a remote
connection like this?"

   - Use a laptop PC to run their radio completely from the living room,
the patio, or elsewhere around the home
   - Use the same laptop from anywhere in the world that offers reliable
high-speed Internet access. [Think "vacation beach house", "AirBNB",
   "Cousin Betty's family reunion", etc.]
   - Share operating your station with other hams

*PART B:*
1. Example of a popular transceiver connected to a Win 11 PC and accessing
the Internet.
2. Description of a remote-control package that runs with that transceiver.

   - Slide showing a table of transceivers and the applicable remote
   packages
   - Upside and downside of each pair of choices

3. Do a "remote" connection from your laptop to the transceiver setup.

   - Demonstrate operating the transceiver, including band and mode
   changing, filter tweaks, tuning, etc.
   - This setup may have no antenna, no way to actually make contacts

4. Switch gears: Use that laptop to connect to a companion presenter's home
station

   - Carry on with a contact using your on-stage laptop.
   - Switch modes or bands-- demonstrate the connectivity and reliability

*PART C:*
1. Introduce the use for contesting

   - Opportunity to actually operate the rig of a superstation
   - Opportunity to actually operate the rig at a prime DX QTH
   - Opportunity to belong to a team of operators from all over the world,
linked by remote control of superior radios than yours

2. Complete the presentation with other uses:

   - Opportunity to "kick the tires" on a next-generation radio
   - Opportunity to be a part of the development of future embellishments
   in digital radio.
   - Awards, certificates, monitoring DXpeditions

*LAST, PART D:*

1. "Who ya gonna call?"

   - Contact people for advice
   - Helpful websites, articles
   - WAR STORIES: What to avoid

2. Examples: Don't start off showing a station that costs as much as a new
car.

   - Show some photos of DX location
   - Then show great PVRC setups.
   - Finish with QSO totals, or DXCC totals

Those are my thoughts, anyway!
