Subject: [PVRC] DOUBLE 5M points this weekend, CQ WPX
To: PVRC Group <pvrc at mailman.qth.net>
Double 5M points the CQ WPX CW contest. Begins 8pm Friday Eastern Time.
Only two other 5M contests in our 2024-2025 season!
This weekend's CW event and the previous CQ WPX SSB event in March
determine the club that wins the CQ WPX for 2025.
PVRC won this contest in 2023 but we lost to YCCC last year. We know we can
win, just need to DO IT!
This is a contest where each different prefix of a callsign is a multiplier
(once only)!
For PVRC to win this contest its not so much about getting more PVRC
members to submit logs, although of course that helps. Larger station
scores are needed.
What are the easy things to do to increase score for single ops? Run,
S&P *using
spots and available-multiplier tables* (e.g. N1MM has this built-in), work
all bands, higher power if you've got it, and of course *more BIC time*.
* Important:*
Multi-op entries can make a big difference. *If you are hosting a mult-op
station this weekend and need ops to fill in any of the hours please ask
for help on our Reflector!*
Also: when you run out of multipliers in the Available window or your rate
is low, use 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz (in preference to the higher frequency
bands) if possible and get QSOs TO ANOTHER CONTINENT because you get more
points: Contacts between stations on different continents are worth three
(3) points on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and* six (6) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz*.
Keep in mind that QSOs to your own continent count for points, but only one
point each, so if things get REALLY slow and you're still awake, work
ANYONE.
>From the CQ Contest FAQ webpage:
-- *QSO alerting assistance is allowed* for all categories except for
entries in the Classic Overlay
-- *no band change restrictions* for Single Op except for entries in the
Classic Overlay
-- Single Operator category entrant may operate up to 36 hours, employ
multiple radios, and use QSO alerting systems
-- Single operator entries are permitted a maximum operating time of 36
hours. Breaks in operating time (also called 'off times') must be a minimum
of 60 minutes. There must be 60 consecutive minutes which have no QSO.
-- it is permitted for an operator to work from home with his own callsign
and then also from a multi-operator station.
-- Please log all contacts that you make even if they are duplicates

Spot everyone.
Have fun in the contest and score big!
