Twenty years ago I was in my 60s when I met and married my current XYL.
She had never heard of ham radio much less seen it in action. She was
curious. So, I took her down into my shack to give her a demonstration.

I put my radio on a speaker and tuned across the CW section of the band.
She said that it sounded like bleeps to her. I tuned farther up the band
and came across PSK signals. She said that it sounded like bloops to her.
I tried to explain the different modes and how we use them. Then I tuned
farther up to around 14.080 and she heard her first RTTY signals. She
asked what in the world is that? I told her they were diddles. She then
opined that hams are crazy. She left the shack, but the bleeps, bloops,
and diddles are still here.

Ah, the diddles are still here. And more importantly, they are here this
weekend - for the RTTY NAQP.

You all know that the six annual NAQP contests are important to PVRC. Our
club always does well. But we can use some more help this weekend.

So, fellow PVRCers, please spend some time getting you shack set up for
RTTY. Set up your logging program and decoders. Join the evening practice
session later this week. And, by all means, get on the air Saturday and
get on for the RTTY NAQP.

Never tried RTTY? Maybe now's the time. All the software you need is
online and free. Most modern transceivers are reasonably adapt for RTTY.
Check out rttycontesting.com – Dedicated to Digital Mode Contesting for all
the information you want to read. And if you get stuck, reach out on the
PVRC reflector for all the help you could ask for. You can even contact me.

And, BTW, please remember to set up your logger to upload your log data to
the online scoreboard to make your efforts contribute to the PVRC club
score.

And BONUS, you'll earn double 5M points for this contest!

Diddle, diddle, 73... Bill K3WA
