All,
First of all, thus far we have received inputs from 14 individual
members. Lots of really good inputs and ideas.
There are three topics with a near unanimous agreement. One is to NOT
do a holiday get-together. The second is to continue a program of routine
chapter meetings. And the third is a desire to continue with a program of
guest speakers.
There was input for a something I could do to help keep things moving
to improve our meetings - Maybe the chairman should have a stopwatch and a
red light. OK, good idea, I do have a clock-timer made just for that
purpose and I'll bring it to our next meeting if (big IF) I can find it.
*After that, it gets pretty ambiguous pretty quick.*
For every input that did not like the Hickory Tavern there was one
that did. The reasons focused on the location, the food, and the relative
goodness of the meeting room. Our small North Carolina area has grown into
a sprawling big city with a big city area and traffic. Some mentioned
that, for them, the primary focus of our meeting is to socialize with other
contesters and to learn from others’ skills and experiences.
The majority of us who responded preferred to continue with monthly
speakers and monthly meetings. Yes, I have been the guy burning up the
phone lines searching for speakers. And YES, I could use help with that.
*Everyone, please let me know what subjects/speakers you’d like to
hear. I can continue to dig up the speakers.*
Regarding the location… There is is no easy solution. Perhaps we
should establish two venues and alternate each month. The first step is to
identify potential venues and check them out. To do that, we need a couple
of volunteers for that task. It would mean looking for additional venues,
going there, having a meal, etc. The ideal would be a restaurant with a
private room that we could reserve for every other month, good WIFI, and
large screen display. Anyone? Without volunteers to do that, we're dead
in the water.
*Next Steps. Based on inputs received so far, I see three viable options.*
1. Make no changes. Continue the way we are going now.
2. Reduce the number of speakers from 12 to 6 a year (every other
month).
3. Find a second venue and alternate monthly meeting locations.
*Please share your thoughts – especially with your preferences regarding
OPTIONS 1, 2, AND 3 above.Option 3 above will require volunteers to locate
and check out alternate locations. *Who is up for that?
