[PVRCNC] Chapter Meetings

My thoughts are the following.
1. I like the in person and hybrid meetings. I think it helps us keep
better in
touch with those that have unreasonably long drives to the meetings
and still
get personal interactions with those that do show up. I suspect
most of the
folks with long drives still won't join us often even if the venue
moves.
We are geographically widely dispersed. Moving back to North Raleigh
wouldn't be a big deal for me. But, it is a bigger deal for Bill
and Hank.
Recently, I have had some conflicts with other commitments and missed
a meeting or two. But, I really try to block out that time slot to
attend in
person each month.
2. I agree with Hank and Jim that the food is typical pub/bar food. Not
as much
variety as Manchesters. I did notice that the Hickory Tavern menu
slimmed
down a bit over the past year. The venue does have some noise
challenges
in the room. I'm not attending for the culinary experience.
3. I think with Bill's most recent mic upgrade the
sound quality was MUCH improved this last meeting. In my experience,
even 'professionally' designed video conference rooms had issues with
microphones and audio around a large conference table. As I recall,
Manchesters didn't provide much in the way of Audio/Video support.
Hybrid meetings there would be equally difficult and maybe worse.
4. I like having presentations. I think everyone learns from them and I
don't
mind contributing to prepare one or two topics that others are
interested
in. We can dispense with the round the table discussion when we have
a presentation. I really haven't found the meetings to be too
long. Some
topic suggestions, Hamvention/Contest U summary from an attendee,
station automation topics and there are always things like antennas,
new radios and propagation during sunspot maximum.
5. If we did a quarterly in person meeting would more of us make a
commitment to attend in person independent of location? If the
location is really the issue, then lets try some other location and
see how it goes.
