I hope yall find this as funny as I did. Some of yall know I've moved

and live in an apartment now. Not optimum for hf operation!! Well this
is a good quick contest and I thought I would give it a try

Asked a subcontractor and friend if I could put up a wire antenna at
his house, and he said "sure" Sort of like a little field day Well

I get the antenna up Thursday, take equipment over on Friday, trim the
antenna and then everything goes completely haywire:) 2 hours later

I have everything set up feeling fairly confident that it will all be
good. So I drive over Saturday morning, get everything finished and
ready to

go. Then wait and then 1pm hits. Chose 20 to start and it wasn't ten
minutes into the contest and my host text me asking me why his oven
was

turning on and off :) That's a new one on me and its a gas oven!! I
mess around with the counterpoise on the efhw, get it somewhat better
but its still messing with it

Shammit!!! Well go to 15,try to run and didn't have much luck so s and
p a few and then went and had lunch. A little dejected, really wanted
to

run on 20 but gave 40 a quick listen and not much but wth. I started
there around 430 and a slow trickle started and then I actually did
pretty good

Well around 6 pm or so 40 had dried up so off to 80 i went. No one
was there but someone has gotta be the first. Started running. Then
noticed

my swr started going up?????? Weird?? Transformer is rated for
100w,should be a problem. Put my hand on the transformer and it was
hot. Shammit

once again :) Went down to 25w ,swr 1:1 keydown and here it goes
up:) So dejected I pack up and am drinking a cold one on my couch by
9 pm

watching contestonline. Some great PVRC scores made!!!! Congrats and
next time I will do better on my station:) 73 dave n4cwz
