Comments:
I don't think anyone can complain about band conditions for this one. 20m was
open round the clock and with my meager loop and dipole antennas I was able to
work the globe. 15m wasn't too much different although after 0500 UTC(1am
local)there was little activity. Not surprising when 20m was open to Asia and
the south Pacific. I still have challenges working into Japan and China from
here, I did actually work China on both 15 and 20m and a couple of JA's on 20m.
I heard a new one to me C21, but they didn't cut through the QRM more than a
handful of FT8 cycles. Would have been easily decoded had it not been for the
completely full FT8 segment. That QRM had a habit of popping up when I was
trying to work several mults. As good as the decoders are, they just don't work
when an S9+20 signal is right on top of that 30Hz signal I cared about.
Overall really happy with the end result of this one. I would have quit way
sooner if not for the online scoreboard. As I looked at the board, there was
always some station providing a reason to just knock out another couple mults
and many more Q's to keep up. Big motivational thanks to K5VIP, K9KLD and
especially N1EK during my last few overnight hours. I ended up pulling the plug
just before 0800 UTC(4 am local). But, Ed's mults kept me searching for new
ones to match him. I did have a small margin when I went to bed for the last 4
hours. Ed prevailed in the end with a 51 Q margin and same number of mults.
Thanks for the push.
I did have one equipment failure that I still need to diagnose. My second radio
amplifier began having some sort of intermittent issue with output surging to
full power and dropping to near zero with no faults or warnings. So, changing
bands to chase the last several mults became more difficult for the last 4
hours.
Thanks for the all Q's, There looks to be some great scores posted for this one.
Gotta love those sunspots!
73,
Eric - NR4O
