Comments:
Well, this one was fun! Glad to provide some points to the club effort and
work some PVRC members. I even signed-on to the On-line Scoreboard and
submitted my data there at the end. Note that this contest operation was an
unassisted effort.
The summer heat was milder than recent beach weekends, but the humidity was
thick. With little to no winds, the insects were out in force, however, my
new ‘iron dome’ repellent worked great. Portable antennas setup and
take-down went smoothly. This is the second time I have done this specific
contest from the Atlantic Beach location, last time was back in 2022 with a
meager score of 6273.
Started right at the gun on 15M running and S&Ping for those hard-to-find
mults. Stayed on 15 for 1&1/2 hours and worked most of the western states.
Then moved up to 10M for about 20 minutes of S&P and picked up more mults
including HI. Never did hear AK anytime during the contest. Then moved to
20M and started S&P for around 20 minutes. Found a quiet spot around 14.242
and started a run. Within a few minutes the ‘storm’ started…lasting for
over 2 hours with a 1-hour rate of 109. Took a 45 minute break for coffee,
food, dog walk and talk with wife. Did a little more S&P on 20 then moved
to 40 where I stayed from 2315 until 0130 S&Ping until I found a spot for
running on 7280. Finished the evening bouncing between 20 and 40 working
whatever I could find doing S&P. Never made it to 80, mostly due to poor
antenna planning on my part.
