It can be difficult to save the voice. I'm a big fan of pineapple juice to sip on, hot tea or coffee - water also. I avoid using phonetics for loud stations that are calling. Just saying the call is typically OK if you are certain you have it correct. Obviously the caller needs to use phonetics.
Good use of a voice keyer is obviously huge.
I'm sure there are other tricks out there as well.

Yes it is annoying from the S&Per's standpoint...been there done that.
However, from the runners standpoint (my recent NCQP effort), after 2-plus hours of 100+ rate, I found my voice fading, so I started going for several QSOs without IDing. Yes, there were those that then asked "your call". I would then give my call on the next QRZ. Luckily, the rate slowed down and I was able to ID after every QSO.
Nate, do you have any hints on how to keep your voice during long runs?

Yes, it's highly annoying. Most guys tend to sign at least after ever 3 Qs or so but after every one sure is nice.

Comments:
I decided to do all S&P unassisted for this contest with lots of breaks.
10m was wide open most of the time I was on. 15m and 20m were also good.
Now I am going to get on my soapbox again. When doing S&P unassisted, it
drives me crazy how many operators finish their call with QRZ and no call
sign.
When trying to find new Qs, I either have to waste time until he decides to
give his call, or just move on or shout "What's your Call" if I can get
through the pileup.
I did contact several new countries for me in Kenya-5Z4VJ and Israel-4X6TT
during this contest. I was able to contact VP5M on 20m and 15m but never
found them on any of the other bands. (Remember I am just spinning the knob)
