Good evening all.

Last night we held our monthly meeting via Zoom. We had a small but active
turnout. Lots of interesting stories, discussion, and laughter. For those
of us who couldn't make it, here's a recap of the meeting.

The most important item was that Steve Worth, KO4NIK, attended his second
meeting and was voted in as PVRC's newest member. Please all join in and
welcome Steve to PVRC NC.

Eric, NR4O, was Steve's sponsor. Thanks Eric. Also, please forward
this email to Steve and ask him if he would please share his email with the
group until we can get him registered and added to the roster.

     Now the news.

Please remember that our new competitive year just started on 1 July,
please make sure that all your contest entries har the last competitive
year, which ended on 30 June, have been submitted to make sure you get full
5M and Olympics credit for the year.

There have been some substantial changes to the 5M and Olympics for
this contest year. The lists should be updated on the PVRC website by
now. And then get on and give them heck.

The IARU contest is tomorrow, Saturday July 9. That will be good
practice for next year's WRTC. And speaking about WRTC...

We have 9, yes nine, PVRC members going to WRTC next year. Ranging
from our own Connor W4IPC to Nate N4YDU, we will be well represented and
will make a loud noise on the bands.

One of the big changes in the next WRTC is that the participants will
not be in tents next year. They will be in fixed sites (stations).
Instead of raising money for tents, we will be raising money for stations.
If you haven't seen today's email from Ted, WA3AER, our treasurer please
let me know and I'll forward it to you. In addition to the general fund
raising for WTRC site sponsorship, which is $1,300 per site, there's a
special site that we, here in PVRC-NC should consider.

For next year's WRTC we have the opportunity to sponsor a memorial
site. We, PVRC-NC, would like to sponsor a memorial site for Will AA4NC,
one of our own whom we lost last year. We'd like the funding to come from
our North Carolina ranks.

The way we'll approach that is to ask for your pledges now. Do not
send any funds to Ted yet for this memorial site. Just please send me (in
a private email) your pledge for how much you'd like to contribute. I'll
keep track of the pledges. When we reach our $1,300 level I will let you
all know and arrange for your pledges and make the contribution. If at all
possible, we'd like to get everyone's pledge by 31 July 2022.

We've already received three pledges so we're off to a good start.
So, please dig deep and let's make Will's memorial our final send off to a
good friend.

And lastly, our August meeting will take place at 6 PM on Thursday 4
August. Early birds are welcome at 5:30. This one will be a hybrid
meeting - in person at the Hickory Tavern and also over Zoom. More to
follow later.

With that, 73 and make noise in tomorrow's contest.

Chairman PVRC-NC
