Comments:

I went without my multi-op crew this year (Lee N1BA) due to the pandemic, and I missed him very much. This was my first solo SS SSB in a long time! Without his help in station building, I was down to one wire yagi for 20m (at 20’), one for for 40m, and an 80m dipole. With no partner (and little sleep), I had trouble keeping BIC.

Knowing that my signal was weakest on 20m. I started on 40m and moved to 80m around 03:00Z. I only made it until 06:00Z before I had to go to sleep. I was back on 80m at 13:30Z and then moved to 40m. I didn’t actually make it to 20m until around 16:00Z on Sunday. I did have some steady but slow runs there.
80m was mercilessly quiet on 80m, and I didn’t even get to try my rebuilt beverages except where they helped with one QSO. I took the time to snag VY2 in an unruly pileup, but I never heard a peep of NT.

I found people very polite this year, frequency intruders politely moved, and even a couple of harrassers on 75m told me how much they hate contesters in conversation rather than S9+30 music/squeals/rtty signal. I was thrilled there were so many checks of 20 and many more 18’s and 19’s!

Here’s looking forward to a non-COVID SS next year.

73,
   Rob K4OV
