I was looking forward to this pandemic version of SS as a much needed distraction from our topsy-turvy world, and I had my second best ever SS CW effort.

After my typical first-hour S&P warm up, I started running high on 20m. Things were slow but steady, as I attracted all the other “slow CW’ers.” I never got a good run going on 20, so I jumped to 40m and alternated S&P and running before going up to 80m. I found a good frequency on a “dead” skimmer spot, and had a great run on 80m. But around 10pm I got so tired that I was falling asleep while my report was being sent - their reply kept waking me up. So I surrender to bed and slept the night. After a good night’s sleep, I was much more efficient and focused on Sunday. I finally got a good 20m run in the afternoon.

I was pleased that there was very little contention or frequency battles for me, all weekend. In fact, the only time I got stomped on my run frequency was from one of our own PVRC officers :-) And I missed one for the sweep - I saw NT spotted but never heard them.

After a year of inattention, my station performed well inside and falling apart outside. The 40m wire beam has a 15db loss (water in the coax??) and the 20m wire beams need to be rebuilt. I’m aiming to get those back by SS SSB.

Thank for all the hi’s and the Q’s-

Rob K4OV
