[PVRCNC] OCF dipole as a vertical

A vertical dipole isn't as sensitive to ground quality as a monopole.
It's got the other quarter wavelength to work against. :-)

I put up a weird 1/2wl vertical for 15m during the ARRL contest. I say
"weird" because I fed it at the center, with the feedline coming
straight out 12 feet and then down at an angle to keep the omni pattern
intact and to avoid the contortions of end feeding. I used a common
choke balun with a bunch of mix 73 around RG316. But the feedline
impedance was closer to 75 ohms than 50. It worked well for receiving. I
didn't expect to use it for transmit but couldn't resist on Sunday and
worked all but a 3-4 stations I could hear using 100 watts.

So far, I have been underwhelmed by its performance all around. I expect if I could mount it as a flat top, it would probably work well, but I only have the single support and only smaller trees in the neighboring vacant lot.
