Comments:
Was without a RX antenna. Old one (phased loops on ground for NE) gone due
to pipe ditching for drainage, something needed done for years. New one
(SAL30) not up due to record rainfall in NC 2018, ground too wet for
preliminary work in the woods. Gonna have to pay tree guys to do it.
Computer took me off line for 12 minutes in middle of contest, one of those
Windows 10 "Your computer has failed and needs to be restarted, and then
apparently I lost my really good run frequency, naturally.
I am so grateful the contest log did not go away.
Couldn't run diversity for the superior listening, due to no RX antenna.
Constantly aware of that, feeling my hearing was being "squeezed" or
something.
I figured that I was going to be crushed, and Friday night was a bit bum
conditions (wet blanket listening) for distance from NC, as shared among
the local contest partakers. However, mostly working Eastern and Mid US,
started with more than 600 Q's in first 6 hours.
But then Saturday night blew away any drudge about the conditions. That was
an EU sunrise opening the likes I'd never seen or even heard of. Huge
number (154) of ten pointers for me. All-time personal best for CQ 160 CW.
Crushed my old best score.
What a blast. I really didn't think I could do a score like that. Or for
that matter do 27.7 hours BIC
Equipment: K3 + Acom 2000A (thanx, Dan).
Antenna: Finally fully loss-listed Inverted L over FCP. (Last item, replace
feedline to antenna)
Finally got the ugly, ugly job done (spare you the details), of burying
control cables and hardline out to the "tractor shed" which houses my L/FCP
feed design breadboard. I could hear the difference on RX, switching tuner
in and out in the shack.
Now to get some ears.
73, Y'all
