This is an azimuth/elevation rotator/controller. It's application to
contesting is hypothetical but I thought you might have ideas for where
I might find a used one. It's ironic as hell that my original interest
in ham radio was to do two way comms with satellites but somebody
pointed to all the trees around my house and said "fergetaboutit" and
that led to HF contesting. Now I have another application that won't
care that much if I can only "see" for a few degrees of arc, so I'm
completing a circle started in 1995.
And I found myself browsing qth.com, looking at HF transceiver prices.
My daughter's graduating in May: two bachelor's degrees, a minor, and a
geoinformation certificate after four years of ass-busting work. I set
the radio hobby on the back burner when she was about three (right after
I attempted to see if Jim's back hoe would run better on 220 volts).
Time will tell if our daughter can mostly cover the masters she's
starting in the fall and enable me to think about contesting again. The
'spots are coming back next month, right?
