Thanks to w4aaw and N4ydu for their assistance over the past few weeks.
I now can successfully remote-control my Riner, Va station with the ftdx5k, and can now travel to anywhere there is internet to get on the air.
I'm using a pair of the Remote Rig boxes made by Microbit, and these make a "transparent" addressable connection with 3 different ports for station control. I am amazed at the quality email support provided by the owner, Mikael. I have yet to make my first contact remotely, but I can hear myself on 80m at my raleigh station when accessing the Riner station remotely. Cool!
It was a fairly steep learning curve to get all of this working, and there are still some tweaks to get the basic operation working 100%, but it was accomplished in a compressed time frame, thanks to really good support from the above named. It's nice to have Mike W4aaw, a true pioneer or remoting, in the club.
I suspect this will now lead to many more pathways, and further learning and improvements over time, since there is much more that can be done.
