2200Z report from VP5/K4QPLWell everything is calming down after a windy but uneventful day. Maria is gone and good riddance! Not nearly as much rain as expected and although the surf at the reef is noisy there isn't much water level change. Still breezy but below TF and gale force winds. We are at the western edge of the chain so we're in the best position. Don't know how things are on Grand Turk yet. We just put in 3 sections in the AB-577 to get the top of the OCF dipole at 25'. Will get on the air and see if we can help other islands. Not set up for RTTY so will miss the fun of giving out a certain mult.  No further reports until after I'm home, hopefully Sunday. 73,Jim VP5/K4QPLSent from my iPad

Good morning all. First of all, the concern and best wishes from all are heartwarming. While there is a lot of damage, loss and misery in the Turks and Caicos islands, it is nothing like the devastation in the Leewards, VI, and PR.

1030Z report: Winds started kicking up around 0000Z and steadily increased through the night gradually rotating from NE to NW. Very noisy with the blue tarps of temporary Irma repairs flapping even though battened down every couple feet. So far they're holding with only minor leaks.
Power and cell service still holding up. Verizon has good international plan for $10/day. Adds up but I'm using iPad as hotspot for our phones.
SteppIR is toast from Irma so put an OCF dipole as inverted vee on the AB-577 on Wednesday and made a few Q's in CWT. Brought the mast down to 10' to protect it. Will go up again when wind subsides.
Will be QRV and willing to help with relief traffic then. Scheduled to leave Sunday but that depends on whether PLS airport reopens.
Eye of Maria is abeam of VP5 now and we're really feeling the TF wind and now some rain.. Daylight now and the pool looks like an ocean and the breakers are big on the Reef. So far the water in Turtle Cove marina looks high but no overwash. We're at about 90' above sea level so no worries about surge.
More reports later.
73,
Jim VP5/K4QPL

I called John, K4BAI, today to find out about Jim, K4QPL who has been in

VP5.  Jim and his son are still on VP5.  Attempts to get a flight out have

been delayed until Sunday.  Jim still has power but has taken his antenna

down.  Maria looks like it's headed toward VP5.  73, Bob - W3YY
