Y'all have a great time. Not set up for RTTY here. We're just sitting here in beautiful weather being told we can't get out of Dodge until Sunday. Airport closing at 8 tonight for Maria's visit. If it keeps the present track we should get some TF winds and rain tomorrow and Friday but no hurricane. Just trying to batten down the blue tarps but compared to others our damage is small.
73,
Jim

Subject: [PVRCNC] W4TMO/VE2 Zone 2

Jim, W4TMO, and I are EXPECTING to be QRV for the CQ WW DX RTTY Contest on the 23-24 Sept, this Saturday and Sunday (GMT). I don't know how much "warm up" time we'll have because I'm flying out on Thursday from RDU, getting to Sept-Îles (Quebec) after dark. Friday morning will be a frantic effort to get some sort of antenna(s) up at the motel we'll be staying at.

It's a big unknown as to whether there will be any sky hooks there or not, so Jim, who's driving up from upstate NY (he had a HS class reunion there) has taken all my mast stock (those 4-foot fiberglass army surplus things) and a 20-foot telescoping plastic flag pole...with a spool of dacron rope!) for antenna supports. For a worst-case scenario, he's bringing his mag mount and 40/20M helical whips (which we used in the NCQP). We also brought along a spool of RG-6 that I had...I'm bringing the PL-259's with adapters!

I'm bringing my KX3 and KXPA-100 along with the SignaLink USB that I use for RTTY as carry-on luggage. I will have the power supply, earphones, and MFJ-269 in the check-in suitcase along with 5 days worth of clothes. I've never done "carry-on" with ham gear before and I'm apprehensive, but have plenty of documentation and receipts packed along with it. Jim's driving up there with his KX3 and KXPA-100 (and whatever he uses to generate RTTY).

So be looking for us. We won't be loud, that's for sure! But, hopefully, we'll be there to provide a Zone 2 multiplier; you know how plentiful those are!!!

73 and hope to work you on every band that's open,

Bert, N4CW
