Last year, in a classic example of poor decision making, Will, AA4NC,
agreed to let us use his call for Field Day despite his unavailability to
attend the festivities. As Will is well known, we were peppered with "Hi
Will"s throughout the weekend. As such, we entered last year as the No Will
Field Day Group, a double entendre if there ever was one. The expected
deluge of OO notices amazingly did not appear despite our best (worst?)
efforts.
Apparently Will's memory is failing, so when June rolled around again he
agreed, again, to let our core of curmudgeons confuse the masses with our
characteristically un-Will like style of operating under the auspices of
his callsign. Again, Will was unable to attend, so this year we dubbed our
operation the Still No Will Field Day Group, maintaining our double
entendre.
Besides the core of N3ND, W4KAZ, N4YDU and N4GU, we added new Not Wills
N9NB and W4BBT to the roster. We also upped out game from 2A in 2016 to 3A
in 2017 and added batteries and solar charging in addition to generator
power.
In what is becoming a FD tradition (twice makes a tradition, right?), just
before the opening bell, we toasted our SK comrade and FD op/cook W0UCE
with his favorite beverage. Chef Archy, we miss your food almost as we miss
you.
Q's were logged, fun was had. No one got hurt. Nothing got broken. All the
requirements for a successful Field Day operation.
