At the PVRCNC East meeting last night we discussed the newly popular IC-7300 which is a great performer at the price. Unfortunately, I must withdraw my full approval based on the following discovered today and posted to the IC-7300 forum:
This may not affect many people unless you do SO2R or take your IC-7300 to Field
Day where there are phone and cw stations on the same band.
I was testing two QRP radios on 40M CW. Both in the headphones and the band
scopes, the K3S was inaudible on the 7300 and invisible on the band scope at any
separation more than 10 kHz at 5W. Unfortunately, at the same 5W the IC-7300
wipes out reception in the other radio more than 70 kHz. away. Noticeable at 200
kHz and would probably be a major problem at 100W. Phase noise is the usual
suspect here and that's where the cost cutting comes in. Elecraft has been
concentrating on this for several years now.
One might argue the problem is in the K3s receiver. I don't think so. Be aware.

Jim, K4QPL
