Sweepstakes CW

AA4NC - Single Op Unlimited Low Power

1080 x 83 = 179,280

Operated full time...Despite rainy weather and predictions of thunderstorms, I thought the bands sounded pretty quiet here. There were only a handful of stations that I had trouble copying, which is less than usual. After last year proved that this contest is won by accuracy, I spent a little more time asking for fills and making sure I had it right. 40 meters was great. I made probably 70% of my QSOs there. I went to 15 meters on Sunday afternoon and made 5 contacts total. I never heard a signal on 10 meters.

I had 82 mults in the log pretty early just from calling CQ. VY1 was the holdout, despite numerous spots for VY1AAA. I never heard a peep out of them, and thought that I would finish without a sweep. Late on Sunday afternoon, I finally heard him at S0 ESP level on 20 meters. W1NN (or whoever) was the remote operator evidently had good ears as he heard me first call. As is the usual way this plays out...VE8EV calls in very soon after I worked VY1AAA!

I got all of my spots from Skimmers. After working the majority of my contacts on Saturday, Sunday became a game of "Guess which spot is not real". It was most of them! Callsign familiarity is even more important in the assisted categories, because the machines aren't very discriminating, even when using the improved quality algorithm.

Nice to work everyone in the annual Contester's Reunion - SS.

73,

Will AA4NC
