Saw spots for VY1AAA but couldn't hear him first couple tries so didn't
waste much time looking for sweep. Ticked SO2R but almost no SO2R Q's as had
only one amp and LP on the second radio wasn't worth the hassle when it was
just as easy to jump to spots on the bandmap with the main radio QRO to bust
the pileups. First time ever HP CW, first time CW assisted and quite a
change from many years of QRP. Got a year to think about whether I like to
shoot fish in a barrel or have less fish! Thanks for the Q's.
I was pleased with the PVRC turnout, but be prepared to see SMC eat our
lunch in CW this year. Never heard so many 8's and 9's, including a large
number of very savvy latecomers with new calls, low numbers, strong signals
and fast rates, all indicative of a major HMO conspiracy and not the typical
casual "fresh-meat" syndrome. Same situation out of CA. Won't mention names,
but late in the contest I almost fell out of my chair when I worked a
well-known NCCC op for the second time but using an old K4/6 call I hadn't
heard in more than 50 years when we were young guys in GA!
I think we must go into the "Second half" as underdogs determined to win it
back. Go PVRC!
73,
Jim
