N6TR called in and said I had the "longest callsign in the contest"! I agreed and said I also had the worst conditions! AA4VK and I came to PY0F on a holiday style expedition and contest weekend. Suitcased everything including antennas - hex beams on 4 meter high masts and wires. I had initially planned on doing SOABLP, but scrapped those plans after finding out that poor electrical distribution was causing S9 to + 20 dB line noise on 40-160m. There was still a great deal of line noise on the high bands, but 10 meters was workable with about S5 noise. My apologies to those that I couldn't work. Radio conditions here are interesting to say the least. Not at all similar to Central America or the Caribbean which I am used to. Much shorter openings and a lot of rapid QSB/fading even when the band is open. 20 meters sounds like Arctic flutter even on local signals from Brazil. Operating CW and RTTY outside the contest was the highlight of the trip. There is a lot of demand for PY0F, especially in Asia.
