FWIW, I have a 10m cwskimmer set up for 10m. As K2AV pointed out, "Thar
be dragonz".
Given 10m has been pretty dead, cwskimmer doesn't have much data to
collect for its signal calibration. My normal method of pushing the K2
into a dummy load at 100mw to create calibration data has given curious
results.
But you...Yes YOU!...can help.
If anybody close enough for ground wave to get into the center of the
Containment Area on 10m can lend a bit of assistance, you can help by
putting a few test signals on 10m CW between 28000 and 28170.
Something like:
"V V V test de w4kaz w4kaz", repeat the test string three times, QSY a
few kc and again. Varying the output power level is optional. Anywhere
between 28.0 and 28.170.
Lidding up the band with tuning carriers also works, but maybe best if
reserved for the Lost Island DX Society out on Lost Island in Jumbawunba
land. Or N3ND. The LIDS carriers don't make it to RBN either.
The skimmer will be up at least through the coming weekend, and probably
indefinitely at this point. Spots will be sent to the RBN, unless I
notice a large problem with mirror images being reported.
If 10m conditions get better, it may have some actual signals to
collect(e.g., a few digital signals on air today). To keep the CPU
level reasonable, it is decoding/skimming cw in the segment from 28.000
thru 28.090, but receiving up just past 28.17. So test signals up to
28.170 would be helpful. The softrocks' oscillator/center is set for
28.090. [Long boring story redacted.]
Tnx. For N3ND, tnx fer nuthin', cuz I know he fell asleep without
making it down to the executive summary. :o
