I have done very well buying some used computers/monitors from Kramden Institute in RTP. They are a non-profit who gets donated computers and awards them to disadvantaged students. They sell some of their surplus to the general public. I bought a Dell Optiplex Core2Duo last year for my radio for $105. I also bought two 20" monitors for $35 each. http://kramden.org/sales/ They have been very friendly and helpful, and it's for a good cause.

They sell in person and also on eBay. I see on their eBay store they have an HP mother board for $45 or BO.
