got pretty good. If the score holds up in log checking it should be a new
NC record for this contest ..... barring some better ops in-state.

Comments: My first time in the NCQP despite living here for about 6 years.
Went out to the MIL's farm in Wilson country since a) no one was announced
to activate it, and b) had not operated from out there before (possible
remote/2nd station location). After a fairly late finish in NAQP RTTY, I
got up early Sunday and headed to the farm. Erected an OCFD in a tree by
the house and was feeling pretty good about things. That's when it started
going downhill. First I realized that I had left my headset at home, so no
phone operation and was stuck listening to the back-firing speaker in the
TS-480. Then the laptop didn't recognize the USB-to-serial adapter despite
having just loaded the drivers the day before to confirm everything was
working. Of course, the driver disk was at home sitting by my headset.

Began the contest working cw Qs as best as I could. I know some of my dear
friends must have thought I had lost my mind those first couple of Qs. Lid
would be a generous description. Oh, and the paddle I brought with me
decided to make contact on the dah side just every once in a while, so no
hand sending either. Bumbled my way along for a couple of hours until the
XYL arrived with the long lost headset and driver disk. From that point on,
everything was fine except for the lull in activity mid-late afternoon. Or
maybe that was just me. I ended up working two other Wilson stations on
phone but do believe I was the only one on cw. Tnx for the Qs and see you
next year!
