Thanks for the report Henry. Guess self decoding is the economical way HI. 
Will also be interesting to see if even that gap narrows with the new 590S firmware promised in January. 
I don't thing the 2khz DR makes much difference outside main HF contesting bands. (DX'ers may disagree.)
I must say head to head SO2R comparison in my shack with nothing more scientific than my ears on crowded WWCW bands put a noticeable performance gap between Orion 2 and 590S although the Kenwood has a very good rx.
