The Carolina Contest Consortium (aka Motley Collection of PVRC'ers)
stepped up their game from 2012 going from 1A to 3A by more than
doubling the number of souls foolish enough to join them. This year's
cast included W4KAZ, N4YDU, W0UCE, N3ND, K2AV,K4IVF, and N4GU. We
practiced the KISS principle for station setup with simple radio,
laptop and wire antenna(s) for each station (ok, we did have a 3 el
yagi for 6m). No towers, no networks, no long elaborate setup or take
down. Unlike last year with it's mild, pleasant weather, Murphy
decided to visit us in the form of rain. Saturday evening saw a fair
number of showers passing through the area. But we had everything
under cover so no big deal. We woke up Sunday morning to patches of
blue sky and most things had dried out overnight. If we could just
make it to about 3 or 4 o'clock and be packed up on our way home
...... The rain started promptly at 1:50 PM. Not hard or heavy, but
steady enough to make sure take down was soggy. But, propagation
seemed good and we all had a good time and made lots of Qs. We lacked
photographers and videographers to record our event, so you'll just
have to imagine us soaking wet taking down. But be assured we had a
good time despite the rain. We'll think about doing it again in about
twelve months.
