Rowland,

10 years ago I needed a long mast for a pair of 6 meter antennas.  I went to Dillon supply in Raleigh and ordered what I needed. I had to pay for it when I ordered it. It took about a week for it to come in.   They have Steel and Aluminum.

Subject: [PVRCNC] Mast?

Hi PVRC-NC'ers,

I am moving 10 miles closer to the center of the PVRC circle - North North
Raleigh, postal address Wake Forest.  It's 2 acres (up from current 1) and
backs up to Falls Lake state park - 5 minute trail walk to the lake.  So I'm
starting over building the antenna farm, which is simultaneously a big pain
and a bigger opportunity.

I am following the example of N3CW (yes, N3 not N4) and putting a 3 ele
SteppIR with trombone on an AB-621 "extended" mast (60 feet).  The SteppIR
is here, the mast comes Friday, and if MFJ can ever figure out how to build
one of their new digital controllers, the Tailtwister arrives in a couple of
weeks. The tree guys cut down $5K worth of big ole oak trees to make room
for this beauty in a week.

So the missing ingredient is a 3 foot mast section to hold up the SteppIR.
Which brings me to the question for the local team - where do you get 2" OD,
1/8" thick, 3 foot mast section?  N3CW suggested US Tower in Frederick - is
there anything local?

Oh yeah, and then I need to put the SteppIR together, haul it up the mast,
and decide what to do for 160, 80, receiving antenna(s), etc etc... I think
I have my summer's work cut out!

But it will be interesting to see how this setup compares to the Spiderbeam
on an AB-952 I'm using at the old QTH.  I also have quite a bit of room in
Falls park to put out some BOGS, pennants, flags, and what-not.

Long as it's all working by SS...

73,
Rowland K4XD
