Comments: Wow! It must have been a great contest for those with real 160m
stations. I skipped Friday night on the ASSumption that given the recent
160m condx, things would be mediocre at best. Saw the notes Saturday about
how great Friday night was, so decided to try Saturday night. Even with my
poor 160m setup, working Eu was relatively easy, in most cases. This was an
S&P event, more DXing than contesting contest for me. Certainly the best
160m contest DX-wise I've had (yeah, my bar is pretty low). Pretty sure I
added a couple of new ones to my tally. My one 'goal' was to work KH6 to
complete 160m WAS. Managed to stay awake long enough to finally catch not
one but two KH6's around 5 AM local. With that, I called it a contest and
went to bed. Should have run some and ran up the Qs, but the DXing was more
fun.
This was the first contest I tried keying the K3 directly through the
serial port from N1MM. It worked fine, but the weighting is off to my ear.
Almost sounded like I was using a bug. Not sure if the distinctive 'fist'
is a help or hindrance. I have the K1EL kit now, so will be getting that
together and trying it next time.
Station:
K3/KPA500
Lazy Perverted-7 antenna
K9AY array (still not working well on 160m, but its there ....)
