Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Some actions I had already taken
– others I tried today.

So here is a list of what I did last night / this morning.

Ø Updated and run Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware: Found nothing

Ø Looked in my HOSTS file. Nothing there other than this:

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1             localhost

Ø Ran ipconfig/flushdns

Ø Deleted cache in IE and Firefox

Ø Deleted any/all temp files

Ø Went out to google hijack removal help page

o It suggested all of the above

o It also suggested to “FIX THE REGISTRY”

§ Well, that is just a bit beyond me

§ Did search the Registry for “google” – did not find any entries

Here is a list of what I have done since the suggestions started coming in:

Ø Ran System Restore to August 9. The restore worked – Google.com still
does not.

Ø Looked for more on-line assistance. Ran PC Tools Spyware DR and Anti
Virus - - DID NOTHING!

Ø Checked out my Network config for obtaining DNS info. Was set to AUTO,
changed to 4.2.2.1 or 4.2.2.2 - - DID NOTHING!

Ø Went through the TCP/IP network setup - - - all ok, DID NOTHING

Right now - - going out to mow the lawn
..

Subject: Google Hi-Jack Virus/Malware

On Wednesday I noticed that one of our PCs (mine) could no longer get to
Google when using www.google.com. After some troubleshooting I found out
that I could get there quite well when using Google’s IP address
74.125.131.105. So, using BING (my new Google replacement)
. I looked
for information about Google Hi-Jack issues. Yes – there it was.

Fortunately, my issue is not nearly as involved as what I read (no
redirects, no pop-ups, etc) – just a failed URL that seems to be trying to
take me to 87.125.87.99.

I followed the various suggested ‘how to clean it’ steps but without
success.

QUESTION: Has anyone had this issue and had any success cleaning without
doing a total rebuild? I REALLY don’t want to do a rebuild
.. again.

Thanks and 73,

Bruce
