The motley crew of N4YDU, W4KAZ, and N4GU took K4FQU on its first
foray for the Carolina Contest Consortium/Lost Island DX Society in
Field Day. Our goals for this year were: 1) have fun, 2) not work
(and sweat) too hard, and 3) have fun.
We had a great site at Franklinton High School, thanks to N4YDU;
basically flat, shaded, and tall pines for hanging wires. A couple of
ladder line fed wires for HF and a dipole for 6m made for a
relatively quick setup (and take down). As others have observed, 15
was anemic and 10 was MIA. 40m was the money band for us.
Weather was about as good as you could ask for Field Day. We had just
the right balance of work and fun. We could improve our 6m antenna,
but having the 6m rig running was probably as much a distraction as
anything. It was neat to work OX and XE on 6m.
