[PVRCNC] Summer PVRC-NC meetings?

As I mentioned at the meeting, anyone is certainly welcome to host our
group. However, I also suggested that a public venue where there is a lot of
variety for non-ham family members with our group just being the focus and
point of gathering could expand the interest from the "awww, another ham
radio thing!".

Lake Crabtree County Park just off I-40 is a great family place and very
conveniently located. There are picnic shelters for groups of 50-100 and a
lot of other activities in the park as well. Pick-up soccer, softball,
volleyball, badminton, horsehoes etc. are available with free equipment
checkout when you rent a shelter.

I checked with them just now and while choices are limited there is at least
one shelter available on Saturdays and Sundays during August. If we take too
long to make a decision some may be gone.

If we want to do this, and there is a consensus on a date, I'll volunteer to
arrange booking the best available shelter and head up a committee for
common-use logistics like charcoal, ice, water barrels, etc. with voluntary
contributions into the hat on the day to reimburse.

We can then decide how far we want to go on food. Divvy up in categories or
just provide the venue and let each family or group cater for themselves and
their own family. Or some combination like bring your favorites for grilling
and we share salads, chips and desserts. I think the main thing is to keep
it simple so people can be free to come at the last minute and likewise if
someone has to cancel at the last minute we aren't doing without something
necessary.

I know this is FD weekend so most people won't be in the mood for the "Great
Outdoors" on Monday!! But talk it up with your friends and family. It would
be a great opportunity to get a big PVRC turnout and not just the Thursday
night regulars.

We would invite all PVRC'ers, especially PVRC West gang. Easy access off
I-40 near RTP.

Email with yes/no interest; number; date preferences, and format for food
would be welcome.

Jim, K4QPL

Subject: [PVRCNC] Summer PVRC-NC meetings?

Amid the general disorderliness of the last PVRC-NC meeting, a question was
raised about the July 5 meeting. Based on the 13 opinions from the 7 people
attending, we will move the July meeting one week later to July 12. Be
there I will be traveling out of town, so the meeting will surely be a
good time.

Also, are there any volunteers to host a picnic in place of our August
meeting? We have had some terrific afternoons recently through the gracious
hosting of N1LN and W0UCE. OR, if you¹re not up to hosting a gathering at
your home, K4QPL had the great idea or organizing a picnic at public park.
All that¹s needed is to reserve a spot and fire up the grill. Any
volunteers?

Hope you all have a fun and safe Field Day-

73,
   Rob, K4OV
