[PVRCNC] PVRC-NC East Chapter August Meeting

Seeing as how Kaz is determined to make August as boring as possible, I'll
try not to disturb the trend. Notwithstanding, I find myself on the "Left
Coast" at a time coinciding with the first joint meeting yesterday of the
three major northern CA clubs, Redwood Empire DX Association, Mother Lode
(not Load!) DX Association, and of course, NCCC. I was invited to attend by
longtime friend from our teen-age Georgia days, W6OAT (ex K4BVD). There
were about 60 in attendance and included a great number of hams whose
callsigns fill our logs in NAQP, CQP, SS etc. Saw the first presentation of
the 7O6T Yemen Dxpedition by Paul, N6PSE, who sends special greetings to our
own W0UCE who was on the Iraq expedition. If after watching the news, the
idea of a DXpedition to Yemen doesn't scare the beejesus out of you, nothing
will. The reality was surprising.

There was also an interclub pileup competition using the KCDXA interactive
software that created a lot of interest in Dayton. 2011 CQP results were
announced with presentation of the Morse Code Winery bottles to the winners
in top categories.

The meeting which included a buffet luncheon was from about 11 a.m. until 3
p.m. on Saturday and of course included time to circulate and talk. It was
anything but boring for me and I'll have a few pictures on my laptop and
more info at the August meeting if Keith's boring notice doesn't prevent you
from coming. ;-)

73,

Jim, K4QPL
