I have been very busy lately and have just been catching up on reflector activities.
I spent this past weekend doing lots of much needed maintenance around my QTH and for the first time in a long time, I can say that all of my antennas are operational. Since CQWW and SS are coming up in the next two weeks, that probably means that we are in for a big storm which will wreck my stuff again ! :>)
I wanted to put a plug in for KD4NMI and his excellent (and quick) work on 2 rotators for me. Richard is located in Knightdale and provides local rebuild service for most rotators. He rebuilt a Ham 3 and Ham 4 for me in a week. He charges $50 plus parts for most rebuilds. Another plug goes to a local crane service that I have found - Lineberger's Crane Guy. He has a boom crane that is capable of 140' reach. His crane is perfect for antenna work. After doing antenna work suspended from a normal cable type crane, being on the end of a boom is a much more comfortable platform to work from.
Since everything is working now, that probably means my scores will go down. It always seems to work that way! I wanted to put in my .02 on the noise I've heard regarding not working NCCC guys in SS. DON'T do this!! It makes no sense on so many levels. Besides obviously hurting your score, it reeks of poor sportsmanship and pure pettiness. The NCCC folks that I know are stand-up guys and worthy competitors. We want to work as many of them as possible and let the chips fall where they may. As K2AV stated in his excellent post, our ability to win SS again is purely dependent upon the BIC factor.
Due to business travel, I won't be at the next meeting, but do plan to be on some for CQWW and for both modes of SS. Hope to see everyone's BIC and remember to HAVE FUN!
73,
Will
