I use the strips also but use some 1/2 pvc in a "u shape", the leg of the u set on the shelf and the
"front" I cut half of the pipe away and mount the strip inside. It act as a reflector and I paint
the tubing to match the shelf. I'm using green led's, I find its easy on the eyes and plenty bright.

I use LED strips for my underdesk lighting and use my linear power supply (12V Astron) to power. No
RF hash. Many to choose from at the website, below. Have purchase several times from them
including motion sensor LED modules to light areas at night.

Hi Rich et al,
Not especially related to power strips, but while you are under the
operating desk bolting power strips on the underside or the wall, consider
adding a small fluorescent lamp. I bolted one under my desk (fixture and tube
are about 2 ft long) and use it whenever I am tracing wires, connecting cables
to the rear of the computer, adding wire, etc. I use one that was meant for
undercounter kitchen use.
