Hi Will,
If you have not found one yet, I have a Samlex 1223 switcher you can
borrow. I've never noticed any noise from it, but the noise level here
at the house is probably higher than anything coming from the power
supply. Right now its the right-side radio supply on a permanent basis.
I have an Astron linear supply on loan from NT4D I can use while you
have the switcher, so thats no sweat.
I can only hear birdies when there is no antenna connected. The birdies
on the Astron linear supply are louder and more plentiful - something
that surprised me.
I bought the Samlex after discovering that the Yaesu fp-1023 is the
EXACT same device(The Yaesu supply blew up after 7 years).
for more on that see: http://w4kaz.com/yaesufp1023.html
Except the Samlex is only $89 vs $160 for the Yaesu label. Universal
radio and HRO carry them I think, if you are in the market for them.
I'm told one of the Kenwood switchers is also really the Samlex with
Kenwood labeling, but I haven't verified that by looking inside one yet.
The Samlex(and the yaesu before it died) has been great for FD and iota,
smaller than the K2.
