[PVRCNC] Honoring SK's in NAQP

I've always thought using the name was a nice gesture in NAQP. After all,
there's nothing in the rules that says the name has to be yours. I used
"Dallas" yesterday and noted there were some others using other names.
W4MYA used "PP". I also heard numerous "Ken" from a lot of Southwest and CO
stations.
Anyhow, I got two 180 degree different responses. One came back and said
"FB, RIP Dallas" which made me feel good. However, a relatively new callsign
not in my database, asked for a couple repeats. When he finally got it, he
just sent the word, "Sick". It took a couple seconds for his comment to sink
in and as I was running and someone else called I didn't respond.
His perception of my using Dallas' name did bother me and made me wonder if
others might see it the same way. Should we be doing this at all? Sure
ruined my intent of honoring a great contester and PVRC member. Was this
just an ill-informed lid or is there another side?
Be interested in other thoughts.
73,
Jim, K4QPL
