Thanks Rich and Jim for rallying the troops! We'll keep our fingers crossed that the log checking goes in our favor.

PVRCNC would like to recognize W4MPS who turned in a 75k CW SS effort after being a PVRC member for only 2 days!

There were several nice NC scores that were not members that we should take a look at to see if they are in the circle.

On behalf of WX3B and myself, we'd like to thank the membership for a tremendous outpouring of support in the November Sweepstakes - essentially the U.S. national championship of contesting. We'd especially like to voice our gratitude to the chapter volunteers and leaders who stepped forward to call, email and generally harangue the membership into getting on for one - or both legs of Sweeps.

ARRL has released its preliminary claimed scores for the CW leg:

NCCC: 129 logs at 11.0mm

PVRC: 122 logs at 10.5mm

This is closer than I was anticipated, but confirms that NCCC has bested us again in CW Sweeps. Fortunately, compared to 2009, the margin was closer. In the end, I think the CW gap will be about 650,000 to 700,000 as NCCC traditionally des a bit better in the LCR.

ARRL has not posted any scores for the SSB leg, but has posted log submission counts:

NCCC: 156 logs

PVRC: 147 logs

While NCCC did better here too, preliminary returns from 3830 seem to favor us by an average of about 10,000 points per log. I think we can thank HEAVY VA/MD/DE/NC/WV presence for this, heavy commitment by the PVRC members to get on and make QSOs, and some divine intervention from the weather gods who unleashed a torrent of thunderstorms in the SF Bay area.

In light of all of this, I think we're very, very competitively placed to win the Gavel - for the third time in a row

Congratulations either way - to you all and to NCCC for not only keeping the bar raised so high, but also for demonstrating that radio sport is alive, well, and vibrant.

Now, thinking ahead (and you may try to kill me for this)...I've been looking at the claimed scores and there are a LOT of hams in the PVRC circle area who have no club affiliation listed. Some of them brought in over 100,000 points which is very high for an "average" ham. I know there has been talk about club growth, quality, dilution, etc., but I think that these potential members would be a valuable addition. I'll note that newly minted members like WB8YYY, W4GOV, and KU1T and brought in close to 500,000 points in their first efforts as PVRCers. They're motivated, active, and energized. I think we could capitalize on this - I know NCCC has.

In the near future, I'm going to circulate a list around of hams that entered the 2010 sweeps but did not list a club affiliation. Take a look at this list; peruse it; look for guys you know or recognize. Invite them to a meeting. Many either don't really know about the club or how it functions. Educate them. Make them feel welcome.

Thanks again. Congratulations again. Happy holidays (and yes, there is another contest this weekend.)
