674 QSOs x 95 mults = 151,595 (or thereabouts including bonus points)
9.5 hours BIC - I spent 20 minutes troubleshooting a bad coax connection
for an 80m stub. Why it decided to act up now is a mystery.
Sorry for being an alligator. This contest is usually a lot of fun for
us NC stations, but the weather made it difficult. I don't remember ever
hearing as much precipitation static as yesterday. Usually precip static
starts very loud with the first drops of rain/snow, etc. then tapers
off. This just never really tapered off. The K3 noise blanker did better
than the FT1000MP, but neither could kill it entirely. Of course, lower
antennas are much less prone to precip static. Unfortunately I don't
have a lower antenna on 80 and 40 right now and the lower 4el. 20 is
aimed NE. That's not a great azimuth for a mostly domestic contest.
The good news is that I'm pretty sure participation was up. My score was
almost identical to last year even with the lousy conditions. I think
most mobile expeditions were scrubbed. I only worked W4MY/M once, so
either Marty cut his trip short or I just couldn't hear him through the
QRN.
Good to work lots of old friends and familiar calls. LY2ZZ gets the 'NC
determination award. I worked him 5 times, more than any other station!
73,
Will
